Wayne "Cotton" Thurston Lowery

Mr. Wayne "Cotton" Thurston Lowery, Sr. of 4075 Lowery Rd., Virgilina, VA died on Sunday, February 24, 2013 at the age of 68. He was born on July 5, 1944 to the late Sherman Lowery and the late Virginia Pool Lowery and was married to Dianne Sadler Lowery. Mr. Lowery was the owner/operator of Cotton's Backhoe Service and was a lifetime farmer. He was a member of North Fork Baptist Church and an avid supporter and coach for Halifax Co. Dixie Girls Softball. He is survived by his wife of 44 years, Dianne Lowery of Virgilina, VA; two daughters, Thurstie L. Sherman & husband, Chet of Virgilina, VA and Amber Dawn Lowery of Danville, VA; one son, Wayne T. Lowery, Jr. and Lesley of Virgilina, VA; two brothers, James Arthur Lowery of Thomasville, NC and Robert Harrell Lowery of Corapeake, NC; five grandchildren, Peyton Brooke Lowery, Jackson Wayne Lowery, Aaron Matthew Clay, Lcpl Chester M. Sherman (USMC), Megan Sherman; nieces and nephews, Perry Lowery, Penny L. Green, Peggy L. Holland, Greg Lowery, Tracey L. Lee, Amy L. Everett; and his beloved dog, Bud. He was preceded in death by his parents, one sister, Doris "Betty" Grubb; and two special friends, Doug Cole and Jack Cole. Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, February, 27, 2013 at 1:00 PM at North Fork Baptist Church with Rev. Barry Crocker and Rev. Scott Welch officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends at Brooks Funeral Home on Tuesday, February 26, 2013 from 7 PM until 8:30 PM and other times at the home.
