Wayne Francis "Joe" Dawson

Wayne Francis “Joe” Dawson of Alton, VA, passed away on Thursday, March 17, 2022, at the age of 80. Born in Halifax County on February 10, 1942, he was the son of the late Edward Binford and Izella Francis “Lizzie” Dawson and was married to the late Iris Roberson “Micky” Dawson. Joe was retired from Daystrom Furniture after more than 35 years of employment. He loved farming, especially cattle farming. In earlier years, he enjoyed hunting and had a lifelong love of playing bluegrass music. Joe was a member of Alton Baptist Church. He is survived by his children, Butch Dawson (Pam), Mike Dawson and Wes Dawson; 6 grandchildren; 9 great grandchildren; brother, Warren Pulliam and devoted friends, Robert and Amy Firth. He also leaves behind his devoted beagle, Solo. In addition to his wife and parents, Joe was preceded in death by a son, James Edward “Skeet” Dawson and siblings, E.B. Dawson, Clarence William “Bill” Dawson, Maynard Dawson, James Dawson, Melvin Dawson, Bob Dawson, James Bowes, Virginia Ford, Kathryn “Kitty” Jones, Margaret “Polly” Reaves, Mary Ann Throckmorton and Helen Dawson. A graveside service will be held at 2:00 PM on Saturday, March 26, 2022, at Alton Baptist Church Cemetery with the Reverend Larry Davis officiating. The family will receive friends after the service.
