Wayne Leon Hopkins

Wayne Leon Hopkins, 77, of Virgilina, VA, went to be with his Lord and Savior on September 29, 2024 with his loving wife, Bonnie, by his side.  Born July 7, 1947, in Halifax County, VA, he was the son of the late Lewis and Virginia Hopkins.

He was the owner of a roofing company and Army Veteran.  He was active in the Virgilina Volunteer Fire Department for many years.  After a decline in health, he was an honorary member of both the Virgilina Volunteer Fire Department and the South Boston Fire Department.  He served as a deacon for many years.  In his retirement years, he spent many hours working on his classic cars and was a member of the Virginia-Carolina Model A Car Club.  He enjoyed spending time with his family.  He had a larger-than-life personality, to know him was to love him.

Surviving are his wife of 54 years, Bonnie Hopkins; two daughters, Wendy Morris (Bruce) of Virgilina, VA and Weston Hopkins of South Boston, VA.  Also surviving are his seven grandchildren, Christopher (C.W.) Morris, Starr Morris, Hayley Morris, Karly Morris, Dale Morris, Joslin Morris, and Lucas Morris, and two great grandchildren, Prudence Laverne Morris and Endora Leon Morris.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by one son, Wayne Leon Hopkins Jr.  He will be laid to rest next to his son at Virgilina Cemetery.

A Funeral Service will be held at 2:00 PM on Thursday, October 3, 2024 at Brooks Lyon Funeral Home Chapel with Reverend Les Puryear officiating.  Burial will follow at Virgilina Cemetery.  The family will receive friends on Wednesday, October 2, 2024 from 7:00 PM until 9:00 PM at Brooks Lyon Funeral Home and other times at the home he shared with his wife.
