William Allen Murray

William Allen Murray of 1043 Hudson Dr., Alton, VA, age 77, passed away on Monday, April 2, 2012 at Halifax Regional Hospital in South Boston. Mr. Murray was born on March 8, 1935 a son of Ernest Ewell and Ruth Puckett Murray. He was a member of Olive Branch United Methodist Church. Mr. Murray was in the last class to graduate from Turbeville Agriculture High School in 1953. He then graduated from Chowan Junior College in Murfreesboro, NC. In January 1956, he enlisted in the Marine Corps, serving with the 2nd Combat service group of the 2nd Marine Division. In February 1997 he retired from ABB in South Boston, VA after over 27 years of service. Mr. Murray is survived by his wife of 50 years, Ann Crowder Murray of Alton, VA; his son, Michael Allen Murray & his wife, Carrie of Alton, VA; one grandson, William Michael Murray of Danville, VA; one granddaughter, Kristal Ann Bogan of Alton, VA; and two great-grandchildren, Madisyn Lee Bogan and Kinsley Grace Bogan. He was preceded in death by his parents. Graveside services will be held on Thursday, April 5, 2012 at 11:00 A.M. at the Olive Branch United Methodist Cemetery with Rev. Bob Woodfin officiating. The family will receive friends on Wednesday, April 4, 2012 from 7:00 PM until 8:30 PM at Brooks Funeral Home and at other times at the home. In lieu of flowers the family request the memorials be made to Olive Branch United Methodist Church c/o Jack Carter, 3027 Piney Grove Rd., Alton, VA 24520 or a charity of your choice.
