William Cary "Moe" Harris

Chase City, VA - William Cary “Moe” Harris, age 88, passed away on Sunday, January 22, 2017.He was born in Chase City, VA on July 21, 1928 to the late Meta Inge and Marion J. Harris.Mr. Harris served his country in the United States Army during the Korean War and was very active in the American Legion.He owned and operated Harris Esso for many years and served on Town Council.He was a member of First Baptist Church. Mr. Harris was preceded in death by his wife of 55 years, Mildred Jean Garrett Harris.He is survived by son, William Cary “Moe” Harris, Jr. of Chase City and daughter and son-in-law, Mitzi and Ray DeJarnette, Jr. of Red Oak.Also surviving are grandchildren, Melissa Chumney (Jonathan) of Clarksville, Matthew DeJarnette (Kristen) of Bracey and Mitchell DeJarnette (Sara Pittard) of Red Oak, and great-grandchildren, Addison Tharpe, Aubrey Chumney, Bryce DeJarnette and Hudson DeJarnette. A memorial service for Moe Harris will be held at 2 p.m. on Wednesday, January 25, 2017 at First Baptist Church in Chase City.The Reverend Tom Cribb will be officiating. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service.
