William John Conner

Mr. William John Conner of 2006 Vaughan St., South Boston, VA died Sunday, February 12, 2012 at the age of 76. Mr. Conner was born in Halifax Co., VA on November 28, 1935 to the late Melvin Belt Conner and the late Martha Jones Conner and was married to Shirley Whitt Conner. He was a machine operator at Burlington Industries and was of the Baptist faith. Survivors include his wife, Shirley W. Conner of South Boston, VA; three sons, Melvin Wayne "Jimbo" Conner & wife, Linda, Ronald Alan Conner, and Jeffrey Dale Conner and wife, Kim all of South Boston, VA; a sister, Clara Ann "Bonnie" Conner of South Boston, VA; four grandchildren, Melissa Ann Conner and Amanda Brooke Conner, both of South Boston, VA, April Carter and husband, Jamie of Vernon Hill, VA, and Brian Compton of Ft. Sill, OK, ; and one great grandchild, Taylor Mae Carter of Vernon Hill, VA. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by four brothers, Melvin Belt "Pete" Conner,Jr., Dinky Conner, Andrew "Mutt" Conner, and Samuel Richard "Big Boy" Conner; and four sisters, Dora Lee Propst, Elizabeth "Kiki" Green, Shirley Puryear, and Daisy Milam. Graveside services will be held on Tuesday, February 14, 2012 at 2:00 PM in Oak Ridge Cemetery with Rev. John Eure officiating. The family will receive friends at Brooks Funeral Home on Monday, February 13, 2012 from 7:00 PM until 8:30 PM and at other times at the home.
