William George Payne

William “Bill” George Payne of Chase City, VA, passed away on Saturday, July 15, 2023, at the age of 70. He was born on May 12, 1953, in Michigan to the late Donald H. Payne and the late Georgine Vallance Payne and was married to Vickie Tilton Payne, who survives. Bill worked as an analytical chemist with Dupont and retired after 35 years of service.  A man of many hobbies, he enjoyed golfing as well as flying and gliding. Bill loved watersports and was a state swimming champion, with his specialty being the butterfly stroke. He was an avid University of Michigan football fan "Go Blue". Bill was a volunteer with the Boy Scouts of America and served in many different roles.

Bill is survived by his wife of 47 years, Vickie Tilton Payne; his children, Eric Payne (Jaime) and Kristen Payne; granddaughter, Liannah Payne and sister, Beth Payne Ullom. He is also survived by nephews, Andrew Ullom, Bill Ullom, and Ian Payne; a cousin, Audrey Vallance and by many four-legged grandchildren. Bill was preceded in death by his parents as well as siblings, Lee Payne Battis and Bruce Payne and a cousin, George Vallance.

The family will hold private services.
