Buffalo Junction, VA - William Granderson Pittard, Sr., age 87, husband of Pattie Daniel Pittard, passed away on Sunday, October 9, 2016.He was born in Mecklenburg County on June 4, 1929 to the late Annie Johnson Pittard and the late Andrew Thompson Pittard, Sr.Mr. Pittard served in the U.S. Army, fighting in the Korean Conflict, and was a 1951 graduate of Virginia Tech.He was a dairy and tobacco farmer and in 1966, founded Sandy Fork Farm Supply.W.G. was active in his community as a member of the VFW, a founding member of the Ruritan Club, a longtime member of the Lions Club and he also chaired the School Board Selection Committee.He was a member of Clarksville Baptist Church where he served as a Sunday School teacher and superintendent as well as a deacon. In addition to his wife, Mr. Pittard is survived by two sons, William G. Pittard, Jr., (LTC, USA, Ret.), and Garland Daniel Pittard, Sr. and wife, Laura, all of Buffalo Junction.Also surviving are three grandchildren, Garland Daniel Pittard, Jr., Watkins Granderson Pittard and Kimberly Love Pittard Foley and husband, Ian. Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, October 12, 2016 at 2:00 p.m. at Clarksville Baptist Church with the Reverend Dr. Greg Randall officiating.Burial will follow at Oakhurst Cemetery.The family will receive friends after the service in the church fellowship hall and at the residence at all other times.
