William Randolph Overbey

March 8, 1949 — October 24, 2024

William Randolph “Randy” Overbey passed away on October 24, 2024 after a brave battle with heart disease for almost 30 years. Randy was born March 8, 1949 to the late Theo and Lois Goad of Nelson.

Randy is survived by his devoted wife of 56 years, Elaine, and his daughters, Teresa & husband Mike Graham and Gail & husband Lance Workman. He was also known as “PaPa” to Brandy and Kurt Royster, Bo Morris, Abby and Nina Morris, Tyler and Raven Graham, Daniel and Jessica Workman, Zach and Katelyn Workman, and Amber and Sam Jones as well as his greatest joys, 10 great-grandchildren. He also is survived by a cherished extended family of sister-in-laws and brother-in-laws as well as nieces and nephews who will miss him dearly.

Randy started working early in life, helping with crops on the family farm and helping Alvah Talley in the tobacco fields. Randy and Elaine were married on April 20, 1968 in Oxford, NC. He worked for James Sheppard at Little Buffalo, Gupton Insulation, and went on to work for Burlington Industries for 32 years in the weave room department. Randy later worked for Elliotts’s True Value, Somerset Assisted Living, Fairfield Inn, and NAPA of Clarksville.

Beyond his employment Randy enjoyed his greatest passion, working from sun up to sun down cutting grass. He found great pleasure and pride in a freshly manicured lawn. He always jumped at the opportunity to helps others do any form of yard work, shine a car or truck inside and out, and work in his shop.

A funeral service for Randy will be held at Hitesburg Baptist Church on November 1, 2024 at 4:00PM.  Burial will follow in the church cemetery.

In lieu of flowers the family kindly request donations to the Mecklenburg County Rescue Squad or the Hitesburg Baptist Church Cemetery Fund.
