William Lee Smith

SOUTH BOSTON William Lee Smith, Sr. went to his Heavenly home on Friday, March 25, 2022 at the age of 86. He was born in Halifax County on February 15, 1936 to the late Samuel Howard Smith and Virgie King Smith. He was married to Sarah Catherine Lacks for 66 years. William was a loving husband, father and grandfather, his family always coming first.He loved his church and all the church family.A very musical man, he loved bluegrass gospel music and played the mandolin and guitar. Also he loved vegetable gardening and woodworking and was an auto mechanic.William was a member of the Red Level Independent Church of God. Leaving to cherish all the memories is his wife, Sarah; children, William Lee "Butch" Smith, Jr (Charlotte), Janice Smith "Weasel" Slocum, Donald Lynn "Duck" Smith, Kathy Ann Smith (Andy) and Mike Smith (Dee). siblings, Nannie Smith Throckmorton and Annie Bell Smith Snead; 13 grandchildren; 25 great grandchildren; 1 great great grandchild and a loving cat, Tinkerbell. In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by siblings, Blanch Langford, Sally Lewis, Cindy Wilmouth, Jimmy Smith, Charlie Smith, Allen Smith, Tom Smith, Haggard Smith and Samuel Smith; son-in-law, Richard "Dick" Slocum; and a daughter-in-law, Frances Diane Smith. Funeral services will be held at 2 PM on Monday, March 28, 2022 at Red Level Independent Church of God. Interment will follow in the church cemetery.
