William Henderson Wood, 81, husband of Peggy Ann Keesee Wood, died Wednesday, August 18, 2010 at Halifax Regional Hospital. Mr. Wood was born and raised in Smithfield, NC to William Young and Algia O'Neal Wood on September 16, 1928. A graduate of Wakeland High School with the Class of 1947, Bill served his country as a Paratrooper in the United States Army during the Korean Conflict. He was a retired Customer Service Representative with Eastern Airlines for 30 years, transfering to Dulles Airport in 1963. He was a volunteer fireman and EMT in Manassas and a Master Gardener. He and Peggy retired to Buffalo Junction at his retirement in 1991. Bill was a member of Aaron's Creek Baptist Church where he served as Deacon, Director of Sunday School and a member of the choir. Memorial services will be held there at 2PM Saturday with the Reverend Vance Midgett officiating. In addition to his wife, Bill is survived by his daughter and son-in-law, Jeanie and Mark Horton of Virgilina; sisters, Frances Adam of Zebulon, NC and Henri Lee Hobbs of Smithfield, NC. Grandchildren, Mallory and Billy Simmons and step grandchildren, Mark Horton, Jr. and Amy Horton also survive. He was preceded in death by his daughter Debby.
