Mr. Woodrow Wilson Carter, 92, of South Boston died Monday, August 3 at his home. Mr. Carter was born in Pittsylvania Co. on September 6, 1916 to the late John Coleman & Nellie Kate Williams Carter. He was married to the late Ruth Posey Carter. He was a member of Main St. United Methodist Church. He was a Federal Park volunteer and a member of the Masonic Lodge. Mr. Carter retired after many years as a salesman for Nabisco. He is survived by two daughters, Rose Marie Paulette & husband, Thomas of Halifax and Helen Wahl & husband, Warren of Chester; two sons, Charles Woodrow Carter & wife, Janice of Danville and John Edgar Carter & wife, Mandy of Bethel, OH; two brothers, Harry Carter of Texas and Carlton Carter of Danville; nine grandchildren, Sophia Decker & husband, Vince, Janney & Daniel Carter, Trey & Chris Wahl, Courtney Ross, Joey Turner, Evan & Grant Carter; Great Godchildren, Laura Farley Smith & Bailey Will; the many foster children of Janney Carter; and special caregivers, Sybill Powell, Nancy Conner, Joan Crowder, Christine Privette, Rae Ford, & Brenda Chandler. In addition to his wife & parents, he was preceded in death by six brothers, Stanley, Spencer, Ross, Henry, Charlie, & Warren Carter; and two sisters, Alice Austin & Gertrude Blair. Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, Aug. 5 at 3:00 PM at Main St. United Methodist Church with burial following in Halifax Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends at the church Wednesday from 2:00 PM until 3:00 PM and at other times at the home, 3111 Philpott Rd.. memorials may be made to Main St. U.M.C., 701 N. Main St., South Boston, VA 24592 or the church of your choice.
