VIRGILINA, VA Zuline Lucy Wilson Lowery was born December 6, 1923, the eldest child of Asa Jerry Wilson and Emma Sue Long Wilson.She passed away at Woodview Nursing Home Sunday, February 4, 2018 at the age of 94. Zuline married the love of her life, James Howard Lowery, January 24, 1942. She had an interesting life. She and James lived in various places while he served in the U.S. Army during WW II. They lived in Washington, DC and Philadelphia, Pennsylvania to name a few.James was drafted in 1941 and fought in the Battle of the Bulge.He was discharged in March 1946. They lived in Hampton, Virginia where he worked at the shipyard and she was a homemaker until the age of 48 when she worked at Roses and later in the school system.In 1980 James retired from the shipyard and they returned to Halifax County building a home in the Virgilina community. Zuline loved to read and crochet.She made many lovely pieces for her family and friends. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband and three sisters, Lois Wilson, Thelma Wilson and Shirley Wilson Carmichael. She is survived by a brother, C.J. Wilson and three sisters, Cecil Wilson Tuck, Virginia Wilson Cumbey and Nancy Wilson Young, all from Virgilina except Mrs. Cumbey, who is from South Boston; and many nieces and nephews. Zuline was a member of Parkview Baptist Church in Newport News, Virginia where she had served as class officers and Sunday School teacher. Funeral services will be at 2:00 PM on Thursday, February 8, 2018 at Brooks Lyon Betty B. Jones Chapel.Burial will follow in Virgilina Cemetery.The family will receive friends on Wednesday, February 7, 2018 from 6:00-7:30 PM at Brooks Lyon Funeral Home and other times the home of her sister and brother in law, Nancy and Harold Young, 4071 Wilson Road, Virgilina, VA.
