Carroll Lee Adkins

October 21, 1934 — August 6, 2022

Carroll Lee Adkins of Alton went home to be with his Lord and Savior Jesus Christ on Saturday August 6, 2022 at the age of 87. He was born in Pittsylvania County on October 21, 1934 to the late Lloyd and Douglas Shelton Adkins.

Carroll married the love of his life, Laline Bates Adkins on April 16, 1954. Carroll has missed her dearly since she passed in 1998.

Carroll graduated from Turbeville High School and signed up for the Virginia National Guard.. He was a member of the Old Dominion CB Club in the 1970s and the 699 Hunting Club.

After working 40 years for Dibbrell Brothers then Dimon tobacco companies in Danville as a redryer supervisor, Carroll retired to enjoy more of what he enjoyed most—fishing and spending time with his grandchildren and later his great-grandchildren. “Pop” loved bragging on his kids and would take every opportunity he could to attend ball games, go fishing and hunting with them, and when his health declined, he spent his time telling everyone he came across about his “babies” and showing off pictures.

Carroll attended True Light Baptist Church in Alton. He accepted Jesus Christ as his Lord and Savior at the age of 81, and he attended regularly until his health setbacks four years ago. He loved Pastor Thomas & Ms. Connie and his True Light Church Family.

When his health would not allow him to attend church in person, Carroll found joy in listening to his pastor’s sermons on CD, listening to gospel CDs and watching Saturday night gospel music on TV.

The family would like to thank all of Carroll’s doctors and each member of their staff, from administrative to nursing. He truly loved all of you and your care for him does not go unnoticed. Special thanks go to the fourth-floor staff at Sentara Halifax Regional Hospital, the physicians and staff at Person Memorial Hospital in Roxboro, Dr. Walker and the staff at Roxboro Health and Rehab, and Dianna & Melissa with Liberty Hospice, all of whom treated Carroll and the family with care, respect, and love during a very difficult time.

A very special thanks goes to his nurse practitioner, Karen Hill. She was an advocate and a huge help and support to him and the family until the very end. She truly loved and adored “Pop” as much as he loved her.

Recognition would not be complete without mentioning his “girls” from Marsha’s Home Care Agency, especially Cynthia, Pam, Linda, and his “sidekick” Kristy. They all loved, spoiled, and treated him with kindness and compassion, and for that we are truly grateful.

Carroll fought hard for the last four years following an unexpected surgery but still enjoyed life as much as his health would allow. He was thankful that the Lord allowed him this time, and that he didn’t suffer. He never lost his quick wit and was joking until his last day with his family. He knew where he was headed and was ready to go meet Jesus.
