Mr. Albert David Doggett, 88, widower of Margaret Dawn Matthews, died Wednesday, January 19, 2011 at Halifax Regional Hospital. David was born in Jeffress on December 10, 1922 to Fletcher Redd, Sr. and Eunice Bullock Doggett. He attended Clarksville High School and was a member of Ephesus United Methodist Church. A World War II veteran, he was a member of VFW Post 8163. He worked many years for J. Lawson Jones Construction, later known as Tredright; was a cattle farmer and an avid outdoorsman, loving his beagles. Funeral services will be 11 AM Saturday at Ephesus United Methodist Church with the Reverends Randy Baisey and Kenneth Johnson officiating. Interment will follow at Oakhurst Cemetery. Mr. Doggett is survived by his friend and caregiver, Mary Elizabeth McDade of Clarksville; brother, Fletcher Redd Doggett, Jr. of Clarksville; nieces, Patricia Huff, also of Clarksville, Carolyn Blackburn of Colorado and J.T. Klise of Texas; and special grandsons, Mason and Chris Covington of Fork Union. He was preceded in death by his sister, Ada Doggett Chewning and his brother, Melvin Gray Doggett.
