David Allen Ragans

Mr. David Allen Ragans of 443 Williamson Rd., Danville, VA died Thursday, May 2, 2013 at the age of 77. He was born in Halifax Co. on June 24, 1935 to the late Hassie Thomas Ragans and the late Virginia Whitlow Ragans and was married to Diane Gentry Ragans. Mr. Ragans was the retired owner/operator of D.A. Ragans Trucking and he previously worked for Lance in Danville and South Boston for 18 years. He was a member of Glenwood Memorial Baptist Church in Danville where he was a active Deacon and treasurer of the Men's Bible Class. He was a member of Woodmen of the World. Mr. Ragans was born and raised in Halifax Co. and lived in Danville for 49 years. Survivors include his wife, Diane G. Ragans of Danville, VA; two daughters, Rhonda R. Comer and husband, Kevin of South Boston, VA and Marilynne B. Simpson and husband, Carl of Hurt, VA; a son, David A. Ragans and wife, Joan of Ringgold, VA; a step daughter, Angela G. Burnette and husband, Brad of Danville, VA; a step son, William J. Gentry, III and friend, Tracey of Danville, VA; two half sisters, Maggie R. Chandler of Lynchburg, VA and Virginia R. Rolfe and husband, Bill of Baskerville, VA; a half brother, Mark W. Ragans and wife, Susan of Virginia Beach, VA; three grandsons, Robert Allen Burns, Taylor A. Ragans, and Matthew D. Ragans; a granddaughter, Nicole L. Wilson and husband, Matt; a step grandson, Drew Neal Burnette; and two great granddaughters, Sophie and Madilyn Wilson. He was preceded in death by his parents, his step mother, Flora Morris Ragans, his first wife, Rencie Lowery Ragans, three brothers, Clyde T. Ragans, Dewey M. Ragans, and Leggett M. Ragans, and two half brothers, Richard Ragans and Cecil Ragans. Funeral services will be held on Sunday, May 5, 2013 at 4:00 PM at Brooks Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Averette Witcher officiating. Burial will follow in Black Walnut Baptist Church Cemetery. The family will receive friends at Brooks Funeral Home on Sunday for one hour prior to the service and at other times at the home in Danville.
