Grace Wilkins Goode Smith

Raleigh, NC - Mrs. Grace Wilkins Goode Smith of Raleigh, NC died Monday, April 11, 2016 at Springmoor'sStewart Health Center.Mrs. Smith was born in Richmond, VA on September 30, 1921 and was 94 years of age.She was the daughter of the late Marvin Andrew Goode and Annie Wilkins Goode and was married to the late George Pool Smith. She was reared in Virgilina, VA and was an active member of Florence Avenue Baptist Church serving as pianist for over 30 years.Later she became a member of Roxboro Baptist Church where she sang in the choir.In 1989 she moved to Springmoor Retirement Community in Raleigh and became a member of Greystone Baptist Church, where she was an active member in many areas of service, especially music. Mrs. Smith was a retired public school teacher having taught in Nansemond County VA and Turbeville High School, Virgilina High School, and Virgilina Elementary School in Halifax County VA.She taught public school music, 5th grade, and language arts. Her survivors include one daughter, Myrtle Anne Smith of Virgilina and one son, George Pool Smith, Jr., two granddaughters, four great-grandchildren, and many beloved relatives and friends. Memorial service for Mrs. Smith will be held at Greystone Baptist Church, 7509 Lead Mine Rd., Raleigh, NC on Thursday, April 14, 2016 at 1:00 p.m. with the Reverends Sean Allen, Allan Smith and Phyllis Mayo officiating. The family will receive friends in the Gathering Room immediately after the service.Committal will be at 4:30 p.m. on Thursday, April 14 at the Virgilina Cemetery, Hwy. 96 N & Cemetery Rd., Virgilina, VA with the Reverend Beth H. Roberts, Springmoor Chaplain, officiating.In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to a charity of choice.Expressions of sympathy may be addressed by Myrtle Anne Smith and G.P.
