Lawrence Ollie Matthews

Mr. Lawrence Ollie Matthews of 2000 Hudson Rd., Virgilina died Sunday, December 19, 2010 at the age of 80. He was born in Mecklenburg Co. on March 22, 1930 to the late William Ollie Matthews and the late Jettie Bowen Matthews and was married to Rachel Wilson Matthews. Mr. Matthews was a US Army veteran of the Korean Conflict and was a member of North Fork Baptist Church. Survivors include his wife, Rachel Wilson Matthews; two sons, Dwight Matthews and wife Sharon, and Kevin Matthews and wife, Vicky, all of Virgilina; daughter, Sharon Glasscock and husband, J.T. of Buffalo Junction; sister, Marjorie Morris of South Boston; brother, Woodie Matthews of South Boston; grandsons, Brian Matthews, Scott Matthews, Reggie Matthews, and Adam Glasscock; granddaughter, April McGraw; step grandchildren, Brad Hines and Chris Emory; great grandsons, Breyer Matthews and John McGraw; step great grandchildren, Jessica, Katie, Morgan, and Mason Bowen. He was prceded in death by his parents; brother, J.D. Matthews; and sisters, Clara Overby and Gertrude Layne. Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, December 21, 2010 at 2:00 PM at Brooks Funeral Chapel with Rev. Scott Welch officiating. Burial will follow in Halifax Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends at Brooks Funeral Home Monday night from 7 until 8:30 PM and at other times at the home.
