Mary Joan Throckmorton Poole

VIRGILINA Mrs. Mary “Joan” Throckmorton Poole, widow of Ira Walton Poole, passed away at her home on Saturday, November 7, 2020 at the age of 76. She was born in Portsmouth, VA on February 7, 1944 to James Thomas Throckmorton and Katherine Angle Throckmorton. Joan was a great Mom and a wonderful cook. She was a fan of both Virginia Tech Football and Duke Basketball. She was a member of Willow Oak Christian Church and loved her church family. Left to cherish her memories are her children, Karen Poole of Durham, NC, Kim Smith and Steven of Shawsville, VA and Kathy Olszewski and Mike of Blacksburg, VA; grandchildren, Collin Smith, Kara Smith, Katie & Jay Horin and Michael Olszewski; siblings, Doug & Elaine Throckmorton, Bill & Betty Throckmorton, Barbara Watkins, Faye & Ray Wilkinson, Nancy Moser and Rhonda & Jimmy Gainey; and numerous nieces and nephews. A Graveside service will be held at 4:00 PM on Tuesday, November 10, 2020 at Virgilina Cemetery.
