Robert Doug Gravitt

Mr. Robert Douglas "Doug" Gravitt, Sr. of 6 Maplewood Dr., South Boston, VA died on Sunday, February 24, 2013 at the age of 85. He was born in Halifax Co., VA on July 25, 1927 to the late Jessie L. Gravitt, Sr. and the late Mary Ramsey Gravitt and was married to Irene Jones Gravitt. Mr. Gravitt was a member of Main St. United Methodist Church. Survivors include his wife, Irene Jones Gravitt of South Boston, VA; children, Bob Gravitt & wife, Wanda of Angier, NC, Dianne Holmes & husband, Randy, Donald Gravitt & wife, Janet, and Jimmy Gravitt & wife, Tammy all of South Boston, VA; two sisters-in-law, Paris E. Gravitt of South Boston, VA and Doris C. Gravitt of Halifax, VA; five grandchildren, Blake Gravitt & wife, Melissa of Fuquay - Varina, NC, Liza Holmes of Nelson, VA, Kyle Gravitt & wife, Jackie of Centreville, VA, Amanda Holmes of Hanover, MD, Kelly Gravitt of South Boston, VA; step grandchildren, Cliff Lewis & wife, Theresa of Richmond, VA, Nick Martin of South Boston, VA, Denise Stewart & husband Olin, Dawn Herring & husband David, and Derrick Avery & wife Wendy, all of Raleigh, NC; one great granddaughter, Leah Holmes of Nelson, VA.; six step-great grandchildren, Sam & Cole Stewart, Brooke & Emily Herring, and Gabriel & Addison Avery. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by three brothers, Jessie Gravitt, Jr., Clarence Gravitt, Trent Gravitt; and one sister, Lelia Gravitt. Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, February 27, 2013 at 1:00 PM at Brooks Funeral Home with Rev. Randy Holmes and Rev. Ed Rigg officiating. Burial will follow in Halifax Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends at Mt. Cana United Methodist Church on Tuesday, February 26, 2013 from 7 PM until 8:30 PM and other times at the home.
